The three-show nationwide tour will be taking place from late January with a new, one-off year location for the second of its dates in the tour.
The North Island shows will be returning to their traditional Auckland Anniversary weekend slot, with the Taupō Summer Concert taking place on Saturday the 27th of January, with the second gig of the tour heading to Claudelands Oval in Hamilton on Sunday 28th of January, as an interim venue for 2024.

Rounding out the tour will be the Gibbston Valley Winery Summer Concert in Queenstown on Saturday the 3rd of February, a great opportunity for the many concert goers who will no doubt take advantage to make it a long Waitangi weekend.

Of the move to Claudelands Oval in Hamilton, it will have the same format as the other Summer Concert Tour shows that fans love and enjoy, with an awesome afternoon festival atmosphere, along with an excellent range of food and beverage options on offer. The move in venue is to be for one year only with the intention of returning to Coromandel once the State Highway roading infrastructure repairs have been completed.

Greenstone Entertainment CEO, Amanda Calvert comments: “We love the Coromandel region, it aligns perfectly to our philosophy of bringing live music entertainment to some of New Zealand’s favourite summer holiday locations.”

“We’re delighted with the recent announcement of funding to construct a new bridge on State Highway 25A, and that the Coromandel region will be fully re-connected again. We have been working closely with Thames-Coromandel District Council and have conveyed to them that by having a one-year break in 2024, it will allow time for the planned new infrastructure to bed in.”

“Both Whitianga and the venue itself are a perfect location for one of our shows. We have a 10-year agreement in place with Thames-Coromandel District Council and regularly attract over 15,000 concert goers to the Whitianga Summer Concert, so can’t wait to be back there in 2025.”

“We have given a wealth of consideration to where to hold the second of our 2024 shows and by taking it to Hamilton we believe it will make it accessible for those in the immediate Hamilton region, as well as those travelling from the likes of Auckland and the Coromandel, along with offering a range of accommodation options to choose from.”

“We are in the final stages of securing another fantastic line up of artists for the concerts and can’t wait to share more details on these soon.”

With over a decade of bringing some of the best of international classic rock to our shores, Greenstone Entertainment are excited to again have the Summer Concert Tour on fans 2024 summer calendar and to host the tens of thousands of concert goers who enjoy these iconic live outdoor music shows.

Cementing its tradition of giving local artists the opportunity to perform in front of a large crowd, Wanaka’s powder chutes provided a great warm up to THE ANGELS, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, PAT BENATAR & NEIL GIRALDO and ZZ TOP.

THE ANGELS again kicked off the line-up of international acts, with an energetic performance, showing that with nearly 50 years of history, John and Rick Brewster along with front man Dave Gleeson still have what it takes to nail their iconic rock hits including Am I Ever Gonna See You Face Again, Take A Long Line and No Secrets.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS were next up with their strong set of music from the 90’s and early 2000’s with lead singer Jeff Gutt, along with band members Robert and Dean DeLeo (guitar and bass) and drummer Eric Kretz, delivering hits like Interstate Love Song, Plush and Vaseline with a sharp and polished performance on stage.

PAT BENATAR & NEIL GIRALDO gave concert goers yet another reason to leave the day on a high with Neil’s incredible prowess on the guitar (and grand piano) and Pat’s powerful voice hitting all the right notes with a massive collection of crowd pleasers like Heartbreaker, Love Is a Battlefield , We Belong and We Live For Love to name just a few.

Finishing off the 2023 Summer Concert Tour, ZZ TOP’s Billy Gibbons, Elwood Francis and Frank Beard needed no introduction. With the instantly recognisable beards, black leather jackets, shades and guitars, they smashed out Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin’, Legs , La Grange in style.

Amanda Calvert, CEO of Greenstone Entertainment says of the tour, “While we were unable to hold our planned Whitianga Summer Concert, we’ve had a wonderful time being able to deliver our shows in both Taupo and Queenstown, and to have seen all the amazing feedback from concert goers over the last two weekends. A huge thanks goes out to all our fans, supporters, suppliers, and of course the incredible line up of artists who have journeyed to New Zealand to make our summer just that much better. We’re already working on our 2024 Summer Concert Tour and look forward to bringing everyone more news on it across the coming months”.

Rocking good time at Taupo Summer Concert

The Summer Concert Tour has kicked off with a sell-out crowd making the most of some long overdue summer weather and a great line up of international artists that has again made the Taupo Summer Concert live up to its reputation of a must do favourite on peoples live music calendars.

Getting the day underway was local Taupo band, FALSE HEIGHTS, who with the opportunity to perform in front of a crowd the scale of which they haven’t performed in front of before, got the crowd warmed up for what was to come – THE ANGELS, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, PAT BENATAR & NEIL GIRALDO and ZZ TOP.

Originally scheduled to perform at the 2021 Summer Concert Tour, THE ANGELS took to the stage and got the afternoon of rocking underway. Laying claim to being one of Australia’s longest lasting bands, dating as far back as 1976, their set list didn’t disappoint, and included hits like Am I Ever Gonna See You Face Again, Take A Long Line and No Secrets.

Next up, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS brought a 90’s flavour to the day with their unique sound, a blending of alternative rock from the 80’s and 90’s, along with the hard rock of the 70’s. Lead singer since 2017, Jeff Gutt had the crowd going with hits including Interstate Love Song, Plush and Vaseline.

Back in New Zealand for the first time since they performed 10 years ago as part of the 2013 Summer Concert Tour, PAT BENATAR & NEIL GIRALDO are certainly a crowd favourite. It’s no surprise this power couple of rock are Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductees with the incredible depth of classic rock hits that continue to be huge crowd pleasers, just some of which being Heartbreaker, Love Is a Battlefield and We Belong that fans got to enjoy today in Taupo.

As the show rolled on into the late afternoon and early evening, in the words of a recent interview with Billy Gibbons – lead singer and founder of ZZ TOP – the sell-out crowd were on their feet and ‘thrashed and bashed’ to a stable of instantly recognisable hits including Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin’, Legs and La Grange.

Amanda Calvert, CEO of Greenstone Entertainment comments, “After a hiatus in 2022, today’s Taupo Summer Concert will be one we’ll remember for many years to come. Not only have the artists and their music been amazing, we’ve also been blown away by all the stories and fond memories that our fans have shared with us on why they come back year after year to celebrate this incredible day of live music entertainment. While we’re heartbroken that recent weather events have meant we won’t be putting on the Whitianga Summer Concert this year, we now look forward to heading to the South Island and to rocking Central Otago at the Gibbston Valley Winery Summer Concert – Queenstown next weekend”.

Whitianga Summer Concert Cancellation

Given the current weather event that is playing out in the upper North Island – particularly around the Auckland and Coromandel regions – the Whitianga Summer Concert, due to take place this coming weekend on Sunday 5 February, has been cancelled.

The Whitianga Summer Concert was to be the second of a three-show tour around New Zealand featuring ZZ Top, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Stone Temple Pilots and The Angels.

The sold-out Taupo Summer Concert on Saturday 4 February, as well as the Gibbston Valley Winery Summer Concert in Queenstown on Saturday 11 February will still be proceeding.

Greenstone Entertainment CEO Amanda Calvert says, “We were so excited to bring our show to Whitianga after our hiatus in 2022. Due to the circumstances of the weather event we’ve been faced with in its lead up, the continued disruption around road access in and out of the Coromandel Peninsula, and on information received from authorities, the decision to cancel was our only option. Our priority must always be to protect the health and safety of both our crew that are tasked with setting up and delivering the show, and of course all our concert goers who predominantly travel to get to the show”.

“It is heart-breaking to have had to make this call due to circumstances that are out of our control. We feel for the thousands of loyal fans who will be disappointed to hear this news and for all the businesses and individuals in the Coromandel who benefit from events like ours. We thank everyone for their support and patience during these continued trying times, and we look forward to rocking again with you in 2024”.
